Inside The Shocking Story Of Gypsy Rose Blanchard “The Sick Child”

From countless TV shows to online experts, there has been plenty of talk about what really happened in 2015 between Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. However, only a few people have ever known the truth about what went down - until now.

Following her arrest and release, the woman at the center of it all has been remarkably open about her life and what triggered a disastrous chain of events. Taking a look inside the shocking story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, aka “The Sick Child,” goes to show just how twisted things got.

There was something about Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blanchard the world instantly loved

When news of Gypsy Rose Blanchard hit the headlines, it was hard not to fall for the youngster. After all, despite what the world threw at her, it seemed she always had a smile on her face and her mother by her side. Gypsy Rose was known to live with various health issues, with her mother doing everything she could.

Dee Dee Blanchard was particularly open about her daughter’s muscular dystrophy, cancer, and various other health ailments as the pair became the faces of inspiration and hope against all odds. The problem? This was more than a devoted mother and sick child. In fact, their story behind closed doors was a lot darker than anyone ever imagined.

Her parents separated shortly before Gypsy Rose Blanchard was born in 1991

Life hadn’t always been this way for Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blanchard. In fact, Dee Dee and Gypsy’s father, Rod, first met when he was in high school, with the pair walking down the aisle when they discovered a baby was on the way. He was just 17, whale Dee Dee was 24, but unfortunately, things didn’t last.

When talking to BuzzFeed News, Rod said that his marriage quickly deteriorated before Gypsy Rose was born. In the end, the pair separated shortly before their daughter was born on July 27, 1991, with Rod adding that he “wasn’t where I was supposed to be” and that he had “got[ten] married for the wrong reasons.”

Her parents had different stories about what happened to their relationship

According to Dee Dee Blanchard, Rod was nothing but someone who was addicted to illegal substances and became someone who would ultimately abandon his daughter. The twist? Rod had a very different version of events. According to him, he always remained in contact with Gypsy Rose and regularly sent the pair money to help raise his daughter.

However, that didn’t stop Dee Dee from stepping up as the perfect image of a model parent. She painted herself as a tireless single mom who had to give Gypsy Rose everything she needed single-handedly. This, teamed with the fact things didn’t feel right, only made their story win over even more fans and help from the community.

Dee Dee Blanchard was worried about Gypsy Rose’s health at just three months old

Things first started to change when Gypsy Rose Blanchard was just three months old. Convinced something was wrong, Dee Dee took her infant daughter to the hospital, convinced that Gypsy Rose was suffering from sleep apnea. After several tests, doctors concluded there was nothing wrong, but Dee Dee’s mind was made up. Something had to be going on.

It’s said Dee Dee was convinced her daughter was ill and even told Rod that Gypsy Rose had a chromosomal defect that was affecting her health. From that moment on, Dee Dee became obsessed with her daughter’s health and would watch her like a hawk. In Dee Dee’s mind, something could strike at any moment and take her daughter away.

A motorbike accident supposedly led to Gypsy Rose Blanchard needing a wheelchair

For years, Dee Dee Blanchard watched over her daughter and would worry whenever anything seemed even slightly off. Sadly, things took a real turn when Gypsy Rose was eight years old. Apparently, she fell off her granddad’s motorcycle and ended up hurting her knee. Of course, Dee Dee immediately rushed her to the hospital for treatment.

Here, Gypsy Rose was treated for a minor abrasion on her knee and sent home, but Dee Dee wasn’t convinced her daughter was truly healed. Instead, she thought Gypsy Rose would need several operations if she stood a chance of walking again. In Dee Dee’s mind, her daughter now required a wheelchair to not aggravate her knee even more.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was moved away from loved ones when they questioned her ailments

Things got harder for Dee Dee Blanchard when her family started to question if Gypsy Rose was really sick. Instead of fighting her corner, the mother would merely move the pair away to another Louisiana town. There, Dee Dee found a run-down apartment and used disability checks from her daughter’s supposed illness to cover their finances.

By the time Gypsy Rose was taken back to another hospital in New Orleans, Dee Dee now claimed her daughter was having issues with her hearing and vision on top of the muscular dystrophy and chromosomal disorder. Dee Dee also added Gypsy Rose was having seizures. While tests showed nothing, doctors still prescribed anti-seizure and pain medication.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed their home, promoting the Blanchards to minor celebrities

Hurricane Katrina destroyed the lives of millions of people when it struck much of the US in 2005. Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blanchard were caught up in it all, with the pair forced to move to Aurora in Missouri when they lost their home. For Dee Dee, this was a chance to use things to her advantage.

She claimed all of Gypsy Rose’s medical records and birth certificate were destroyed in the hurricane, and the pair quickly became minor celebrities. Here, they were the faces of disabled and sick people as they fought for their rights. Habitat for Humanity eventually built them a house, while Make-A-Wish sent them backstage passes for Miranda Lambert and Disney World tickets.

The attention from the press saw Dee Dee Blanchard’s lies start to unravel

Hearing a story of a girl fighting various diseases while her mom raised awareness about the rights of disabled and sick children was enough to grab plenty of media headlines. Almost overnight, multiple foundations and specialists were reaching out to the Blanchards to see if they could help, including Bernardo Flasterstein, a pediatric neurologist working in Springfield.

Flasterstein offered to see Gypsy Rose at his clinic to see if there was anything he could do to help the family, but that’s where things started to unravel. The doctor made an unusual discovery: there was nothing wrong with Gypsy Rose; no musical dystrophy, no cancer, and none of the other health issues Dee Dee had claimed.

The doctor started digging into Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s medical records and learned the truth

According to Bernardo Flasterstein, he saw “[no] reason why she doesn’t walk” and couldn’t figure out why Dee Dee Blanchard had banished Gypsy Rose to a wheelchair for years. Even though Dee Dee continually brushed him off, Flasterstein began making calls to doctors in New Orleans after being told all of Gypsy Rose’s medical records had been destroyed.

After talking to everyone he could, Flasterstein learned everyone thought that, in most ways, Gypsy Rose was a healthy child. The doctor started to wonder if it was Dee Dee who was really ill, with people later suggesting Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental disorder that sees caregivers create false illnesses for a patient in their care, was to blame.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard also began to suspect that her mother was one who was truly sick

Bernardo Flasterstein had no idea he wasn’t the only one who thought something might have been wrong with Dee Dee Blanchard. For a while, Gypsy Rose also believed that her mother might be seriously struggling with something. By 2014, Dee Dee had begun telling everyone her daughter was 14 years old when Gypsy Rose was actually 19.

Gypsy Rose also knew more about her health than everyone else. After all, she knew she could walk and didn’t need a wheelchair. Dee Dee didn’t send her daughter to school past the second grade, meaning Gypsy Rose had minimal education. Still, by using the ‘Harry Potter’ books, Gypsy Rose was able to teach herself to read.

Dee Dee Blanchard always had an excuse when Gypsy Rose would reach out for help

Gypsy Rose Blanchard had been wondering for a while if something was wrong and even tried to escape from Dee Dee to get help. At one point, Gypsy Rose broke out at night and showed up at their neighbor’s house, begging to be taken to the hospital. However, Dee Dee was quick to brush everything off and explain things away.

As soon as she became more independent and was no longer a sick child needing help, Dee Dee would state her daughter’s mind was filled with diseases. From blaming medication to calling Gypsy Rose mentally challenged, Dee Dee had an answer for everything. Their loveable nature hid most cracks, but unfortunately for Dee Dee, Gypsy Rose was getting fed up.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard started to secretly talk to men online when her mother was sleeping

The world was changing, and, like it or not, Dee Dee Blanchard was losing the control she’d had over her daughter for so many years. In fact, the incident with the neighbor merely encouraged Gypsy Rose to try even harder to escape. Now, she would wait for her mother to go to sleep before using online chat rooms.

At one point, it’s said Dee Dee discovered what Gypsy Rose had been doing online and chained her to the bed, threatening to use a hammer to break her fingers if she did it again. However, nothing stopped Gypsy Rose. She continually went online to talk to men in the hopes that one would be able to save her.

Nicholas Godejohn almost immediately helped Gypsy Rose Blanchard come up with a plan

The years continued to pass, and for Gypsy Rose Blanchard, it felt like she was truly alone and would never be able to get away from her mother. That was until 2012. Gypsy Rose was about 21 years old at the time when she met 23-year-old Nicholas Godejohn, who lived in Wisconsin. Still, things weren’t entirely smooth.

Nicholas already had a criminal record due to his indecent exposure and had his own history of mental illness, but that didn’t matter. After just a few months of talking, the pair arranged to meet. When Dee Dee left the house for a rare solo trip, Nicholas snuck in to finally get close to Gypsy Rose - and concoct their plan.

The pair planned to wait until Dee Dee was asleep to put their plan into motion

Gypsy Rose Blanchard had been waiting for someone to save her, and that’s exactly what Nicholas Godejohn was seemingly about to do. Together, the pair decided they needed to get rid of Dee Dee if Gypsy Rose ever stood a chance of being free. Sure, Dee Dee would lose her life, but surely it was worth it?

The pair used Facebook to message each other as they came up with the perfect plan to end Dee Dee’s life. All they needed to do was wait until she’d gone to bed before Gypsy Rose would let Nicholas in. From there, it was down to Nicholas to do the deed and get Dee Dee out of the picture.

Dee Dee Blanchard ultimately lost her life on June 9, 2015

On June 9, 2015, everything was about to change in Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s life once more. This time, it was at her own hands and the hands of her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn. Just like they had planned, Nicholas waited until Gypsy Rose gave him the signal that Dee Dee had fallen asleep before he snuck into their house.

According to Gypsy Rose, she and Dee Dee spent the night giving each other manicures before her mother put her to bed. Gypsy Rose then promised to be “a good girl” before the horrific crime. Once asleep, Nicholas snuck in and stabbed Dee Dee 17 times until she lost her life, all while Gypsy Rose listened from the other room.

People initially thought Gypsy Rose Blanchard had been kidnapped

Five days later, a strange message appeared on Dee Dee Blanchard’s Facebook profile. Gypsy Rose wrote that her mother had lost her life, which immediately sparked concern from Dee Dee’s loved ones. When they couldn’t contact Dee Dee, they called the authorities, who discovered that she’d lost her life - and Gypsy Rose was nowhere to be found.

To start, people assumed Gypsy Rose had been kidnapped, but when officers discovered a host of clues at the scene, they realized she might have been involved. Eventually, they tracked the IP address of the Facebook posts to Nicholas Godejohn’s home and arrested the pair, suspecting they were at the very least involved with ending Dee Dee’s life.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard apparently wanted her mother’s body to be discovered

It wasn’t until after she was arrested that Gypsy Rose Blanchard began to speak about everything that had been going on her entire life. According to her, she posted about Dee Dee because she wanted someone to find her mother’s body. While she didn’t think she’d be arrested, Gypsy Rose was now free to speak out.

Sympathy immediately shifted from Dee Dee to Gypsy Rose as she explained her mother had been faking her illnesses and she was actually in her 20s - not teens. According to Gypsy Rose, Dee Dee had shaved her hair to make it look like she had leukemia, let her teeth rot out, and altered her appearance to make her look sicker.

Experts agreed Gypsy Rose Blanchard was still a victim of her mother's crimes

It wasn't long before a team of psychiatrists were called in to determine the truth. It didn't take long for them to come to the conclusion that Gypsy Rose had, indeed, been a victim of child abuse. For one, Dee Dee had been forcing her daughter to fake illnesses, but that was far from the end of it all.

Gypsy Rose also explained her mother would destroy her things, hit her, tie her to the bed, and sometimes even starve her. Some experts later claimed that Dee Dee had, in fact, been living with Munchausen syndrome by proxy, but that didn't change the elephant in the room: Gypsy Rose had still organized the end of Dee Dee's life.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard pleaded guilty to her part in the crime just one year later

People around the world struggled to come to terms with the fact that the woman who had painted herself as such a perfect mother caring for a sick child could have been behind these horrific crimes, but unfortunately for Gypsy Rose, she was no longer innocent in it all. Even county prosecutor Dan Patterson called the case “extraordinary and unusual.”

Eventually, Gypsy Rose admitted she was the one who asked Nicholas Godejohn to end Dee Dee’s life and help her escape. The court ultimately charged Gypsy Rose with ending her mother’s life in the second degree, with her pleading guilty on July 5, 2016. As a result, Gypsy Rose was sentenced to ten years in prison.

She eventually testified at Nicholas Godejohn’s trial

In a twist, it seemed Gypsy Rose Blanchard was willing to testify in Nicholas Godejohn’s trial. That moment came in November 2018 when Gypsy Rose took to the stand to talk about how she asked Nicholas to end Dee Dee’s life as she wanted a way to escape her lifetime of abuse at the hands of her mother.

Nobody denied Nicholas was the one to end Dee Dee’s life. However, his attorneys claimed Gypsy Rose manipulated him to do so, and he should have his charges reduced to ending someone’s life in the second degree, too. It didn’t work. Nicholas was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, a sentence he’s still serving to date.

Several TV shows have been released about Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s story

Of course, even before Nicholas Godejohn had his day in court, there were plenty of TV shows and movies all about what happened to Gypsy Rose at the hands of Dee Dee Blanchard. One of the most famous came from HBO in May 2017 and focused on what really happened to Gypsy Rose behind closed doors.

Here, the documentary used footage of Gypsy Rose and Dee Dee throughout their lives, but that wasn’t all. The show also showed interviews with Gypsy Rose’s father, Rod, and her stepmother to paint more of a picture. Even Gypsy Rose herself appeared in the documentary to talk about the night Dee Dee lost her life.

The Act dramatized the events of the Blanchards and won over the world

It wasn’t until March 20, 2019, that the world got ‘The Act,’ with the limited drama series truly taking over the world. The Hulu show saw Patricia Arquette step up as Dee Dee, while Joey King starred as Gypsy Rose as they brought their stories back to life. Of course, most of the story focused on Dee Dee’s abuse.

‘The Act’ was highly praised following its release, with Joey receiving a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series and Patricia taking home the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series at the 2019 Emmys. Even critics were quick to praise the show and the stars’ acting talents as they brought the mother-daughter duo to life.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard initially threatened legal action after the release of The Act

Sadly for the stars and creator of ‘The Act,’ while the rest of the world was giving the show a huge amount of praise, one person was less than impressed: Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Although she was unable to watch the series from prison, Gypsy Rose did release an email statement about the show through Bustle.

Here, Gypsy Rose stated she thought it was “very unfair and unprofessional” that they “used my actual name and story without my consent.” To make matters worse, she even threatened to take legal action against those involved. However, a family friend - Fancy Macelli - later told Vulture Gypsy Rose’s words were “from her own place of anger and disappointment and frustration.”

It was later revealed Dee Dee Blanchard had bought a weapon

As the years have gone on, more and more has come to light about what happened between Dee Dee and Gypsy Rose Blanchard. For one, there was a time when Dee Dee allegedly brought a weapon into the house. According to Gypsy Rose, she ran away in 2011 to be with a man she’d met at a sci-fi fantasy convention.

At first, Dee Dee responded by chaining her daughter to the bed for two weeks. Then, she bought a weapon. Gypsy Rose admitted she was scared her mother would “do something worse than hitting me or starving me.” Only when Gypsy Rose decided to run away again did she allegedly grab the weapon and confront her mother.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard admitted to pulling the trigger, but it wasn’t the weapon she thought

In apparent desperation, Gypsy Rose Blanchard admits that she “pulled the trigger as many times as I could” without taking a moment to think about what she was doing. However, if the tale is accurate, it might just go to show how much Dee Dee would manipulate her daughter, as there was almost no harm done.

That’s because it wasn’t a regular weapon but was actually a BB gun. In the end, Gypsy Rose had shot her mother ten times, but Dee Dee was left with nothing more than superficial wounds that would soon heal. It appeared Dee Dee was merely hoping Gypsy Rose would think it was a real, dangerous weapon.

Dee Dee Blanchard allegedly made up more stories about what really happened

It turned out the event with Gypsy Rose shooting her mother was far from over. Rather than lay low as the wounds healed, it turns out Dee Dee told another lie to get more sympathy from those around her. This time, she explained a robber shot her when Dee Dee and her daughter were cornered in a Walmart parking lot.

While Gypsy Rose was relieved she hadn’t accidentally ended her mother’s life in the heat of the moment, she was also angry that everyone seemed to be buying Dee Dee’s lies once again. That wasn’t all. Gypsy Rose apparently questioned why Dee Dee wouldn’t “let me have a normal life,” with her mother merely replying she “need[ed] special care.”

Gypsy Rose Blanchard announced her engagement several years into her sentence

Three years after she was first sent to prison, it turned out Gypsy Rose Blanchard had even more to share with the world. This time, it was the fact that she was engaged. That news hit the world when family friend Fancy Macelli revealed to People magazine that the couple had known each other for about 18 months.

Although she confessed they first met as pen pals, Fancy added they wanted to keep things as private as possible, adding, “They are very happy.” Things took a turn a few months later, in August 2019, when Gypsy Rose and her fiancé briefly split, only to later reconcile, with it being uncovered that his name was Ken.

Nicholas Godejohn and Gypsy Rose’s relationship deteriorated quickly with the announcement

Of course, news of Gypsy Rose Blanchard being engaged came as quite a surprise to many people. After all, Nicholas Godejohn was the one who ended Dee Dee’s life to try and save her from her mother - what happened to their relationship? It turns out it wasn’t meant to last, especially when Gypsy Rose got engaged.

Apparently, things rapidly deteriorated between the pair, with Fancy Macelli telling People magazine that Gypsy Rose’s time with Nicholas was an act of “desperation.” Fancy also added that Gypsy Rose was still young and “deserves to have somebody who cares about her,” hinting that wasn’t the case with Nicholas, before stating her new fiancé is “just there for her.”

She did eventually marry another man in June 2022

Just when it seemed Gypsy Rose Blanchard was starting her new life with Ken, things took another turn in June 2022. This time, it was down to the news that Gypsy Rose was married - to a man called Ryan Scott Anderson. Apparently, they first started talking in 2020 when a coworker wanted to write to Joe Exotic.

After encouraging Ryan to reach out to Gypsy Rose, he agreed, and it seemed they instantly hit things off. A year after they started talking, the pair met, with Gypsy Rose later telling People magazine Ryan was her “emotional blackboard” and that he is “probably the most compassionate soul that I have ever met, and the most patient.”

News of Gypsy Rose Blancahrd’s early release gripped headlines in 2023

At 32 years old, it appeared that things were finally falling into place for Gypsy Rose Blanchard for the first time in her life. When she was initially sentenced, she wasn’t meant to be released from prison until 2026. However, that all changed in September 2023 when it was announced she would be released from prison early.

On September 29, a spokesperson from the Missouri Department of Corrections confirmed to E! News that Gypsy Rose had been granted parole and would be released on December 28, 2023, after serving 85% of her sentence. They also explained she was being given time served for the year in jail ahead of her pleading guilty.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard admitted she regrets what happened to Dee Dee

The day before she was released from prison, Gypsy Rose Blanchard gave a candid interview with People magazine about what really happened the night her mother lost her life. Here, Gypsy Rose admitted she was “desperate to get out of that situation” but that she regretted being involved with the ending of her mother’s life.

Gypsy Rose also spoke about what she would do if she could go back in time, stating she doesn’t know “if I would go back to when I was a child” and tell her family, “I’m not sick and mommy makes me sick,” or if she would travel to the infamous night and “that conversation with Nick” to stop things.

She immediately became an internet star following her release

It seemed the countdown was on for Gypsy Rose Blanchard when it came to her freedom as people across the world came together to welcome her to the outside world. That’s partly why she became such an online sensation the day after she was released. When talking to People magazine, Gypsy Rose admitted he was “ready for freedom.”

Then, the day after she was released, Gypsy Rose took to social media to share her first selfie with the world. Titled the “First selfie of freedom!” Gypsy Rose showed the world she was ready to “expand,” as she had told People magazine. Following her release, she has kept her fans with her every step of the way.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard publicly addressed her fans for the first time on New Year’s Eve

Even though she had been sharing photos of her adventures post-prison, Gypsy Rose first addressed her new fanbase on New Year’s Eve 2023. Here, she took to social media to post a video stating she’s “finally free” and wanted to “thank everyone for the massive amount of support” and how she “appreciate[s]” all of her new fans.

Gypsy Rose also told her fans she is “back home in Louisiana” after so many years behind bars, with fans thrilled to see that things were going so well. The media has also been keeping a close eye on Gypsy Rose ever since her release, even showcasing her first outing as a free woman to buy new shoes.

She also shared updates about what could be on the way in the future

That’s not all fans got to learn before the end of 2023. Many have wondered what Gypsy Rose Blanchard will do with her life now that she’s finally out of prison. Many pondered if she would catch up on all the things she missed throughout the last eight years, and it seems there are already plenty of plans in motion.

Gypsy Rose shared she already has “a lot of great things happening really soon.” Among these are a docuseries, ‘The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard,’ and a book titled ‘Released: Conversations of the Eve of Freedom’ that Gypsy Rose is “super proud of.” Still, for now, it was all about spending time with family “after so long.”

The posts come after weeks of social media hype surrounding Gypsy Rose Blanchard

There is something about Gypsy Rose’s story that has really grabbed the world, and people seemingly can’t get enough of everything she offers the internet. While she had a level of fame before her mother’s life was ended, this is entirely new to Gypsy Rose as she has become an overnight celebrity in recent months.

Many want to protect and meet Gypsy Rose, with people even posting countdowns and tribute videos of her before she was released from prison. However, others want to help her transition back into society to avoid the fallout we have seen so often with celebrities. The question is: how long will the internet’s obsession with Gypsy Rose last?

The unusual circumstances of her case have seen people become obsessed with Gypsy Rose

One of the things that makes Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s story stand out so much is the fact that Munchausen syndrome by proxy might have been involved. W. Keith Campbell is an expert on narcissism, cultural change, and personality and told USA Today that one of the things that makes it “especially fascinating” is “the complexity” of the case.

Media psychologist Pamela Rutledge added that many viewers have wondered, “could this happen to me?” which merely “makes us curious for the details.” Even associate professor David Schmid admits Gypsy Rose “is the perfect embodiment” of celebrity and true crime, adding to the “truth is stranger than fiction” feeling around her case and release from prison.

Ryan Anderson and Gypsy Rose apparently want to start their own family

Even before she was released from prison, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was open about the fact she wanted to start a family with her husband once she was free. She spoke to People magazine about it all, admitting that despite her relationship with Dee Dee, she has “learned what not to do” when it comes to raising children.

Apparently, it has always hurt Gypsy Rose’s feelings whenever someone questions what kind of mother she will be, adding that she has Ryan Anderson’s mother and her stepmom as inspiration for “mother figures.” While Gypsy Rose doesn’t think she will win “mom of the year,” she has “no concerns” about “my parenting when it comes to that time.”

Some fans have started to turn against Gypsy Rose Blanchard already

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was greeted by a host of online support from across the world when she was released from prison, but it appears that things are already changing. For one, Gypsy Rose and Ryan Anderson have admitted they’re worried about their lives in the limelight, telling People magazine, “it is going to be crazy for a minute.”

Still, that’s not all. Some instant fans have now become haters, adding they think Gypsy Rose hasn’t taken enough responsibility for her hand in the ending of Dee Dee’s life. Others have been analyzing videos of Gypsy Rose and Scott, stating she is now controlling his answers just like Dee Dee did to her for so many years.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard says she's no longer allowed to contact Nicholas Godejohn

When Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison, she wasn't immediately a free woman. Instead, she is out on parole, meaning there is a strict list of things she has to do and not do if she wants to maintain her freedom. Apparently, one of those is that she is no longer allowed to contact Nicholas Godejohn in any way.

Gypsy Rose said as much when talking to People magazine before her release, even going as far as saying, "I don't want contact." While Gypsy Rose did admit, "I feel responsible for putting him in this situation," she added that the crime was "on him as well" and that Nicholas has “a choice, and he went through with his.”

Nicholas Godejohn maintains ending Dee Dee’s life was the only thing he could do

Unlike Gypsy Rose Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn has been a lot quieter during his time behind bars. Still, he did talk to Oxygen in July 2019, where he maintained his time with Gypsy Rose was “the best days of my life,” adding he “knew we were soulmates.” Nicholas also said there was “no other option” when it came to Dee Dee.

According to Nicholas, he wanted to ensure Dee Dee “was not going to harm her anymore,” resulting in his life sentence. Still, it’s something he’s appealed ever since. In August 2022, Nicholas claimed he had ineffective counsel and requested a new trial. Sadly for him, that motion was denied in March 2023, meaning the original sentence still stands.
